The Feast of the Goat

The Feast of the Goat ( La fiesta del chivo) was published in 2000. The novel is along with The War of the end of the World the only one of his books that takes place outside of Peru. The title was taken from the dominican Merengue-artist Mataron Al Chivo (they killed the goat), which referes to the assassination of  the former ruler of The Dominican Republic, Rafael Trujillo.

The Feast of the Goat tells about the assassination of Rafael Trujillo and the following events from two points of views. One during the time it happended in 1961 and the other one 30 years after 1996. In between the book also covers the time before the assassination, in the 1950's during the dictatorship.
